Preparation Before Proceeding:
- Ensure you have a new Admin with a valid Microsoft 365 Family account to continue managing the subscription and ensure access for all family members.
Guide to Transfer Microsoft 365 Family Management from the Old Admin to the New Admin Without Affecting Members:
- Log in to the old Admin account and visit the Microsoft Family page at https://account.microsoft.com/family/home.
- Select "Add a family member", enter the email of the new Admin, choose "Family organizer", and send the invitation.
- The new Admin logs into their email and accepts the invitation to join the family group.
-
Once the new Admin is added, there are two ways to transfer management:
- Option 1: The old Admin accesses the family settings, scrolls to the bottom of the page, and selects "Leave family".
- Option 2: The new Admin can directly remove the old Admin from the family group via the family management page.
- The new Admin verifies the family page to ensure they are the only Family Organizer and all members are still listed.
Post-Transfer Checks:
- Ask family members to log out and log back into their Microsoft accounts to refresh access rights.
- Verify that applications like Word, Excel, and OneDrive are functioning properly for all members.
Note on Potential Issues:
In some cases, family members may appear on https://account.microsoft.com/family/home but not on https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365/details. This happens because the members are still linked to the old Admin's account. To resolve this:
- The old Admin logs into https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365/details and clicks "Stop sharing".
- Then, the new Admin logs into https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365/details and clicks "Start sharing".
Verify to ensure that all family members are displayed correctly and access rights are functioning properly.
